Local Packaging Company Receives $105,244 for Energy Efficiency Upgrades

Williamsport, Maryland, Oct. 26, 2018 — In a check presentation ceremony last month, Potomac Edison awarded Packaging Services Industries (PSI) more than $105,000 in incentives for energy-efficient upgrades.

The check presentation followed months of lighting upgrades to the Williamsport-based corrugated box manufacturer’s facilities through the Energy Solutions for Business Program. The program offers rebates to commercial and industrial Potomac Edison customers in Maryland for upgrading to more energy-efficient equipment.

The massive overhaul involved replacing 650 traditional metal halide, fluorescent, incandescent and HID lighting fixtures with energy-saving LEDs. Daylight and occupancy sensors gave the upgrades an additional boost of efficiency.

The project is expected to save more than 395,000 kWh per year — equivalent to a year’s worth of electricity to power nearly 40 homes.

“We completed these upgrades with employee safety in mind,” said Litzinger.

From office lamps to overhead warehouse fixtures, the enhanced lighting has greatly improved workstation visibility and made for a brighter, more productive and safer workplace inside and out. For Litzinger, partnering with Potomac Edison was an easy decision.

“Working with kW Efficiency and Potomac Edison allowed us to get the work done with virtually no downtime,” he said. “On top of that, the incentives from Potomac Edison greatly reduced the project cost and payback period.”
