Equipment Development Company Saves Energy and Money While Improving Quality and Safety

03/29/19

Frederick County, MD, March 29, 2019 ¬–– During a check presentation ceremony, Potomac Edison awarded Equipment Development Company with $54,645 in incentives for energy-efficient upgrades.

The check was presented to EDCO by Potomac Edison’s Energy Solutions for Business Program for installation of lighting improvements throughout the company’s facilities. The project included the retrofitting of all office lighting to LEDs, warehouse lighting from metal halide high-bays to LED high-bays, and much more. Overall, more than 570 fixtures were upgraded.

The upgrades are expected to save EDCO nearly 400,000 kilowatt-hours (kWh), which is equivalent to the energy used to power 40,000 average Maryland homes for one month.

Potomac Edison’s Energy Solutions for Business Program offers rebates to Maryland commercial and industrial customers for qualified upgrades to more energy-efficient products including lighting, process controls, HVAC and more. In this case, upgraded lighting not only helps save energy but also provides longer lasting, brighter and significantly less maintenance than traditional lighting.

After management company BlackWolf Commercial put EDCO in touch with Potomac Edison-approved contractor KW Efficiency, the rest was easy. “The Potomac Edison Energy Solution for Business Program made the decision to install energy-efficient and environmentally friendly lighting much more affordable,” says Jason Stanczyk, Vice President of Operations of EDCO. “We now have upgraded lighting with reduced operating costs.” With their belief in quality and safety in technology, EDCO sees the benefits going far beyond just energy savings. Older lighting fixtures were replaced with newer ones that incorporate new technologies, such as ambient light sensors in the office light fixtures that dim the lights based on the amount of light coming in the windows while still provide adequate lighting in the offices. This improves office conditions for the employees in addition to offsetting lighting costs. Overall, the staff at EDCO would wholeheartedly recommend the program to other businesses looking to take the next step in upgrading their facilities. “We accommodated our desire to become more environmentally conscious while employing new technologies to save on operating costs,” said Bill Harding, Co-President of EDCO. “And we did it at a reduced upfront cost that was only possible from the Potomac Edison Energy Solution for Business Program.”
