Cumberland YMCA Makes Long-Needed Lighting Upgrades
The check was presented to Cumberland YMCA by Potomac Edison’s Energy Solutions for Business Program for installation of lighting improvements throughout the facilities. Energy-efficient LED lighting upgrades were performed in the entire facility, including over the indoor soccer arena, pool and basketball court. The upgrades are expected to save nearly 131,000 kilowatt-hours (kWh), which is equivalent to the energy used to power 16 average Maryland homes for more than a year.
Potomac Edison’s Energy Solutions for Business Program offers incentives to Maryland commercial and industrial customers for qualified upgrades to more energy-efficient products, including lighting, process controls, HVAC and more. In this case, Cumberland YMCA was able to make upgrades that were 20 years past due both inside and outside the facilities, without raising utility costs.
After some research and discussion with the staff, Cumberland YMCA worked directly with Capital Electric Supply to choose the rebate that best suited their needs.
Increased lighting has brought huge benefits to the facilities, including the weight rooms, pools and more. “Better lighting at a facility equals a safer environment for our patrons, which is a more inviting experience all around,” said Sean Hite, Facilities Director for the Cumberland YMCA. “From lifeguards seeing swimmers better to patrons feeling safer when stopping in for a workout, we’re very pleased with the results.”
